For many, access to legal aid is difficult, and social injustice has a more significant impact on the lives of the most vulnerable despite every human being having the same inalienable, universal right to live with dignity, regardless of class, race, religion, or creed.
This focus area of FA Foundation was born out of the desire of Professor Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, to encourage social justice in Nigeria and empower the less privileged by providing quality pro-bono legal services to them.
Through Kenna Foundation, we provide grants to legal practitioners working to create social change by providing pro bono legal services in areas such as rape, police brutality, extrajudicial killings, prison decongestion, particularly for inmates awaiting trial, widows’ right to properties, estate management, among others in Nigeria.
Kenna Foundation aims to achieve the following:
- Creating a fund for the provision of pro-bono legal services to vulnerable and less privileged members of the society.
- To support legal practitioners in the provision of pro-bono legal services in Nigeria through the Kenna Foundation Fellowship for deserving legal practitioners in Nigeria who have distinguished themselves in the relevant areas earmarked and identified for support by the Foundation
- To promote a stable social and economic climate in Nigeria by supporting the advocacy of legal practitioners in the areas of rape/defilement, women’s and widows’ rights, police brutality/extrajudicial killings, and prison decongestion; specifically, for inmates awaiting trial, among others.
- To create awareness of the illegality and consequences of rape/defilement, women’s and widows’ rights, police brutality/extrajudicial killings, and prison decongestion on the victims, perpetrators, and the society.
- To do such other things that may be considered to be incidental or conducive to attaining all or any of its objectives
Through the achievement of justice, we envision a stable social and economic climate in Nigeria.
